Today's lesson
We had 2 lessons due to Christmas performance practice.
1. Reading Street story p. 140-156
5 kinds of simple machines:
1. lever (there will be a touching point/ pivot) - to lift up heavy objects. Examples: bottle opener, crowbar, seesaw.
2. inclined planes (a slanted surface) - to move things up and down easily. Examples: ramps, stairs
3. wedge (two inclined planes to form a sharp edge) - to cut or split things. Examples: ax, knife, scissors.
4. wheels and axle (wheels are connected by an axle) - to help things go or move along the ground easily. Examples: skateboard, bicycle, wheelbarrow.
5. pulley (it has a wheel and rope) - to raise or lower heavy objects. Examples: well, flagpole.
